Much like Irene and Earl, we cant wait for summer to return!!  As you can see here....they often took canoe trips through the mouth of Lake Charlevoix and Round Lake.  Married 62 years, they were quite a pair!!

Earl Young loved Seagulls and since these birds are known to fly into the wind....they acted as nature's weathervane and that's how he came up with the name for the restaurant and hotels.
He even made the roofline of the Weathervane Restaurant to look like "wings of a seagull!!"
The Lodge Motel was originally named the "Weathervane Lodge" and was the first motor lodge Earl ever built.  He was inspired by Castle Farms at this time and thus the turrets adorning the exterior circular staircases.
The entire area on the east side of Bridge St. and south of Dixon Ave. was meant to continue on with golf courses and a marina but unfortunately, money was never in Earl Young's favor and often hindered many of his greatest ideas!!

Fall Mushroom House Tours Still Going Strong

Fall Tours Are Still Going Strong!!!

This year has brought us record breaking, fabulous weather and the fall leaves are just hitting peak in good ole' Charlevoix, MI!!

For the past 7 years, we have offered daily tours and are the "original" Mushroom House tour company.
We were also voted "Best Tour in Town".... Can't beat that!!

Since this is our own business....we offer only the highest standards of customer service and have an impeccable record of fantastic reviews.  So many that we actually have had 30% of our clients come back for a second tour with friends or guests!! Its a great way to showcase Northern Michigan and a wonderful way to spend an otherwise boring afternoon!

Meet the tour guides: Edith Pair and Alex King
We are both artists and creative types with an extreme passion and knowledge on all things Earl Young....we will NOT disappoint!

Lets face it....we are a tourist town.  So that being said,
we here at "Tour Michigan".... and Charlevoix in general.... like to extend our services to the wonderful people who visit for as long as we can.

For us, that means as long as the weather holds up!
We have been in full swing and running daily tours with the only issue being the cold temperatures.
Therefor, we have a full supply of warm and cozy blankets and will be offering hot chocolate in the weeks to come.

We plan on touring at least through Thanksgiving so grab your warmest coat....and see the fabulous creativity of these magnificent stone structures which are located solely in Charlevoix, MI..
Its a treat and a trip you won't want to miss!!!

Apple Fest 2016 was a HUGE success!!

APPLEFEST in Charlevoix is one of the most popular times of the year to visit!!
The city and wonderful Chamber of Commerce put their heart and soul into this wonderful weekend!!!
We had over 30,000 visitors this year and heard great comments and reviews.....
think caramel apples, hot cider, fabulous artwork from local and statewide artists....and of course...the fabulous 'Mushroom Houses" of Charlevoix!!

We try and give the best tour we possibly can to show these fabulous stone structures.
"GG"...our always popular GEM car, worked her little "buns" off this weekend and we managed to do 19 GEM car tours and 3 complimentary walking tours.
As luck would have it....the weather seems to be working in our favor and we will be providing daily tours until the snow gets too high to drive through.  Go ahead and book your tour now and we can always cancel due to weather.
The GEM car holds up to 5 people and is a suggested donation of $15 per seat!

WHO SAYS LILLY PULITZER IS ONLY FABRIC?

I was so excited this summer to be asked to re-design and paint a fish sculpture for a client in Bay Harbor. The fish had been a part of the Red Cross fundraiser where local artists paint whatever animal sculpture is chosen for that year.

When the fish were being done years ago, I was not involved with the program. I was however involved with the “Turtle” project where I managed to come up with “Lilly Pulitzer Prize Winner” as my design for that year.

I got a hugely popular response and was thrilled when the owner of a fish decided that they MUST have a Lilly Pulitzer themed fish of their very own.

Took it upon myself to go through fabrics and samples of Lilly Pulitzer fabric until I found the perfect fit. Being the client loved aqua, turquoise and pinks…I made sure those were the main colors and then added my own twist with the black, polka dot fins.

“Fernando Fish,” which my significant other and I lovingly named…became a good friend in our household as he is rather large and our apartment is rather small.

It was hard to say goodbye but he is in his new home and is probably just a hop, skip and a jump away from his sister, the turtle. Hopefully they live long and happy lives bringing a charm and beauty that only original artwork can provide!

Bravo to the Red Cross for coming up with such fun and fabulous ideas of animal sculptures to adorn the paint of local artists in the community. Keep your eyes open for next year’s animal which has yet to be revealed!

MORE TO COME!!

EDITH PAIR ART "CRAZY BITCH" ENTERED IN ART PRIZE 2016!

Alex King and Edith Pair
"Crazy Bitch" Voting #63762 located on the main floor of the B.O.B for ArtPrize!!

On a very cloudy, rainy Tuesday morning...my wonderful significant, Alex King, and I set out on the road heading for the exciting and extremely anxious trip to Grand Rapids, MI, where we to showcase my first ever installation in ArtPrize.

Recently recognized as one of the biggest and best art shows in the world, you can imagine my stress level was at an all time high and I was in full on panic mode.

As luck would have it, the closer we got to Grand Rapids, the sunnier it became and by the time we got there...the clouds had all but cleared completely.  I should have realized then that was a very good sign from above!!

Not knowing a thing about Grand Rapids, we would have been completely lost if not for my good friend MapQuest.  We were easily navigated to my painting's new home called the "B.O.B," which stands for  Big Old Building, and is known for hosting the funkiest and coolest artwork in all of ArtPrize!!

Upon entering the front door after lengthy bickering about where and how to park the most conveniently, I was certain everyone there was going to look at me with confusion and say something along the lines of "I am sorry Ms. Pair, but we have no records showing you were accepted into ArtPrize and most certainly were not picked to showcase here."

As I said a small prayer that would not happen, in I went with my fingers crossed. I was met with one of the most gracious welcoming's I could ask for and with my name in big black letters on the long list of accepted artists.

Barbara, who runs the B.O.B, was just as excited for me to hang my piece as I was and was a true delight to meet and become friends with!  It's not often you meet people in that environment who doesn't have a little attitude, but she could not have been nicer and more welcoming to us.

We got the deluxe treatment and by the time we left, we had made 2 new great friends with other artists in my vicinity and got our 1st glimpse of how this all works without anything going wrong.

As much as I tried to enjoy the smoothness of the entire process, I was still certain that at any moment, someone would tap me on the shoulder and tell me there had been some big mistake and to please grab my things and leave immediately!

Thank dear god that didn't happen and I am now home and have publicity and marketing all over for "Crazy Bitch" and I couldn't be more proud and humbled by all the support from my friends and family.

To be involved with something of this caliber and popularity is something I have strived for since I was a little punk.  I am blessed and honored and I promise to continue to try and create and execute the finest artwork I can and share it with the world!

God Bless and take care ..Edith Pair
